How to get the new Facebook chat with video calling

Here is the response of Facebook to Google+. Skype integration into Facebook chat to provide video calling to users.  News was circulating that Facebook is about to launch something “awesome” and it comes exactly one week after the limited release of Google+. Facebook was missing the video call feature for a long time and Skype has a proven technology and experience. The integration seems to be a good add-on for Facebook. From another point of view it can also be seen as Microsoft’s rivalry with Google (Microsoft is the new owner of  Skype and a shareholder in Facebook). News apart, here is how you can get the latest video calling chat on Facebook:

  • Log in to your facebook account
  • Go to
  • Click on Get Started (Facebook can take you from here in steps but still I’ll write it), It will ask you to select a friend to video chat
  • Click on a friend, the chat window opens up
  • On the top of the chat window, there is the known video sign  , click it
  • It will ask you “Set up video calling?”
  • Click on Set Up
  • It will ask you to download a plugin exe file (on Windows)
  • Save the file, Run the file
  • Enjoy your video calling

If your friend does not have video calling installed on his/her computer you have an option of leaving a video message. Cool na?

Question, suggestions and a word of thanks is always welcome. Enjoy :)

you need to set-up the video call every time?? I guess no…once you installed the video-call plugin you don’t need to go to this page ….you can simply go into your facebook home and chat with people….(i’ll look into the matter further once i login to Windows again)

joshi they’re blocking people because it’s still in a “beta” stage. It’s not even completed! Just wait for it to be fully released. Also, i assure you the hype it’s still very high. Moreover, none had friends on facebook when it was being tested, so you cannot say none likes g+.

it seems so as invites from this site dont come through
i did subscribe to the blog, vertified by the subscribe email… and i dont get a invite to g+
no g+ invite in the trash-box, no invite in the spam-box, no invite in the in-box of my email-account

it seems as some thing is not working at this side here or at the g+ side
what ever it is i begin to ask my self if it is worth to support g+ by joning it
there are rumors telling that g+ is only a biger commercial analysis-tool as facebook and also less social then facebook
and the second thing that i dont like … most people willing to join g+ cant join because google is blocking them out… this is a great point more for facebook
and anyway i have a lot of friends in facebook and it seems no friends in g+ … so why should i beg to bring my friends into g+?
it seems as the big g+ hype is slowing down and maybe soon its already digital trash as google-buzz is
so joining g+ is geting less important then it did look to me
but thanks any way for all the informations about it and all the other interessting topics at this blog 😉

Fast and simple review, i like it. Howevere, are you still sending those google+ invites? I’d be really grateful if you send me one!

  • Nathaniel

Most don’t care, but Facebook chat don’t work on Linux. They send us a “.exe”… lol.

In the other hand, no problem with the google-talkplugin packages (32/64bits, rpm/deb), very probably used for google+ video chat too.

As some others (Linux) users, i don’t like to be ignored, and i’m not the only one… for me, this is an additional big + for google.

Moreover, i’have big doubt about the source/protocol avalaibility of Facebook/Skype solution, vs a Jingle/XMPP based solution at Google.

PS: still need a G+ invite if sb as one… thank you very much
PPS : sorry for my english, learning in progress…

Don’t know if it’s really a good long-term strategy to stop dev of Skype for Linux.

In one hand, new users in Linux may say “f***, no skype in this OS, should i go back to windows ?” (Like audio/video in WLM some years before).
In the other hand, a) it push alternatives and interoperables solutions (like XMPP, a little younger sadly (jingle), or SIP), and b), people using Linux from some time won’t go back to windows just for Skype and will push for interoperable alternatives.

I’m finishing my computer science studies, and around me people is more conciliant against other OS users (Mac, Linux) than vew years ago, when the only response was “You’re not using Windows ? So it’s not my problem, go back with your fuckin’OS !”

Maybe the increasing number of Mac users is good for us finally, by increasing the variety of public OSs.

PS: just seen you’r from Grenoble. I’m finishing my 5th and last year at Supinfo Lille :)

Lol..you took my name..how come this happened in first place…?

Well…most of the new user just go with Windows…believe me whatever anyone say…windows is a very simple to use operating system if you want to do nothing except using internet, watching movies, listening music and playing games… Windows has one positive thing….it helped to familiarize so many people (even good old granny) with the thing called computer (if you really say so)…

Linux on the other hand is gaining popularity day by day…now a days any intermediate level user can jump on to linux to use it for most of the daily computer activities….

Never really tried Mac Os…it looks so good..i wish i could afford one sometime…:)

      • Nathaniel

Kiaaa ! why is there your name and not mine on my last post ? WP bug ? can you repair that ? don’t want to speek on you name xD

Sweet! Competition is good, for us anyways :) Thanks for the invite! Unfortunately it won’t let me join because it’s apparently full :( Unless I’m doing something wrong?

    • Hermes

Here in Germany plus.google.com says something german which i try to translate:

“You have already received an invitation? At present, our capacities are fully load. Please try again shortly.”

But i cannot prove it, as no one has invited me.

  • http://www.kwalcott.com Kevon

Are you still issuing Google+ invites?

    • http://computerandu.wordpress.com Abhishek Prakash Chaturvedi

      Yupe…I am doing it daily…

      • Hermes

Thank you for giving me hope.

  • Joshi

@Joshi…If you are a subscriber there is a high probability that you might have got mails from me…

Is subscribing to the RSS feed via Google Reader enough? If not, do I need to enable “new post notification” when commenting, or will notification of follow-up comments on any post do? (I already subscribe via Google Reader, so that would be double; that’s why I’m asking)

        • http://computerandu.wordpress.com Abhishek Prakash Chaturvedi

I prefer you subscribe via e-mail…there is an option to do that on right side bar…i’m not sure of google reader….
