Smart watches are soon expected to become the next big thing and big companies like Apple and Samsung are already trying to capture the smart watch market with its very own smart watch. Let’s take a look at seven best smart watches coming in 2013.

Apple’s iWatch

Apple is working on a smart watch that will allow users to perform some of the tasks that can be done by the currently available iOS devices like reading messages and notifications. The smart watch from Apple is expected to feature Bluetooth and a 1.5-inch screen using curved Gorilla Glass that can flop just like a piece of paper. About 100 designers are working on the watch according to a report of Bloomberg and we can expect to see the device in 2013 for sure.

Samsung Galaxy Altius

There have been rumors of Samsung planning to release a smart watch after hearing about Apple’s iWatch and now we have a screenshot to confirm that. Samsung’s upcoming smart watch titled as the Galaxy Altius is expected to come with cellular connectivity as shown in the screenshot, 2 or 3-inches screen, music player, message/email viewer and will be running a new OS called the AltiosOS. Everything about this smart watch including its release date is still a mystery so we have to wait for an official announcement to confirm these things.

Microsoft’s Rumored Smart watch

Microsoft is currently working on touchscreens smart watch to join the race with Samsung and Apple. Everything about this gadget is a complete mystery but the smart watch is currently in the prototype phase if the report by the Wall Street Journal is true. Teams who have worked on the Kinect sensors and the upcoming Xbox are working on this watch so we can expect to see something really cool once it’s out.

Pebble

Pebble is a smart watch designed for both iPhone and Android that comes with a power-saving e-paper and lasts for a whole week when fully charged. It was first unveiled at CES 2013 and is now available for pre-order. You can customize the look of the watch, check incoming caller ID, email, SMS, iMessage (for iOS), Facebook messages, Twitter alerts and other notifications. You can connect this smart watch with smartphones using Bluetooth and this cool smart watch will be available for $150 only.

WIMM One Watch

WIMM One Watch is another Android-based watch that comes with a promising set of features including a 1.41-inch touchscreen display, a Samsung ARM11 processor running at 667MHz, 256MB RAM, 2GB internal storage, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, magnetometer, accelerometer and GPS. Setting: This tab is simply as short setting panel we find in our device from here one can switch on/off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Auto-sync, Auto-rotation, GPS, Cellular Network, change Screen Timeout and even adjust Screen brightness but we find it pretty useless as one find these options in settings of device too.

Uninstaller: Last Tab of the application acts as easy application manager so when you feel your device is running out of space or it is jaggy then you can uninstall the selected number of useless application in one go.

Appearance and Layout:

We feel that overall appearance and layout of application is decent and serves it’s purpose. It has small five tabs at bottom and cool layout of particular screen running over it. background colour gives it a shiny look and text colour too doesn’t hurt the eyes. Also there is no complexity in navigating from one tab to another.

Value:

So here we come to the most important step value. So Is it worth to download? Since the application is offered for free and is of merely 5.86 MB also it serves it’s purpose fully we don’t see any reason to ignore it. It does saves the juice of your Droid as for example when I installed the application last night battery of device was at 76% and in the morning when I rechecked after 8 hours of sleep device was at 75% whereas earlier drop was used to be by 3-5% so it does save battery life thus saving your time and money. The thing we didn’t liked is the lots of Ads, we know it’s the way of earning by developers but they can offer a paid version too which is free of ads.

Will 3D Printing Change The Way We Think About Food?

Star Trek apparently has a lot answer for. Sub atomic food replicators and transporter technology are the kinds of fanciful futuristic technological devices dreamt up by science fiction writers penning their latest blockbuster novels. And yet, stranger than fiction tech already exists – it’s just a case of scientists and tech minds finding a way to make it work for the average consumer.

3D printing is currently an ‘all the rage’ topic with many champions hailing the technology as being some kind of second coming.

Every area of industry and mass marketing consumerism is seemingly fair game for 3D printing attention, and food is certainly not immune to the 3D printing treatment.

Mission to Mars

A whopping 78,000 applications were received when the Mars One project was unveiled. With an estimated arrival date of 2023 the race is on to find ways of keeping those hardy travellers in sustainable food.

NASA recently given a large sum of money ($125,000) to Anjan Contractor who is working on a prototype of his universal food synthesizer.

Contractor told how long distance space travel requires a 15 year shelf life for food. Their project is aiming to remove all moisture but keep carbs, proteins and micro & macro nutrients in its products. Essentially the foods will be in powder form and which Contractor says will give a 30 year life span to edible goods.

Feed the world

Space missions aside this technology may have a greater impact here on terra firma.

It’s estimated that by 2040 the planet’s population will have ballooned to nine billion and with food producers struggling to provide for the masses this 3D printing technology could be the saviour of our global population.

Contractor believes that as long as the balance of nutrients is correct then the powder derivative could be produced from insects, therefore alleviating strains on livestock and other sources.

Print-a-pizza

Anjan Contractor has already produced a pizza printer which gives users the opportunity to manufacture their own doughy creation.

Everything from the base to toppings can be discretely extruded and printed which will result in one of ‘mama’s best’ hitting the table.

For the masses

How this technology can be rolled out for the average consumer is still a topic of hot debate. Affordability, actually getting printers into households and the impact on grocery stores are all creases that need to be ironed out.

With backing from NASA though it looks like Anjan Contractor is taking the first steps to possibly ending world poverty. Time will tell how well the results fare.

Google Glass
