Review: Sentry Neon Stereo Earbuds

Before you read this review, I recommend watching my unboxing so you could get a better understanding of this product and how I came about it.

These earbuds are selling for less than $10 on and also available at local retailers. I believe that this is a great price since it provides great audio quality for watching portable TV, portable gaming, gaming, iPods, MP3 Players, smartphones, and many more devices.

You can purchase it in four different colors, I have the color red, and the accents are very professional for such a low-cost pair of earbuds. Sentry paid close attention to these earbuds and provided you with the best service for style and design.

The earbuds themselves are somewhat comfortable. I place them in my ears and found that they don’t fit perfectly. Sadly, Sentry don’t provide more earbud tips sizes. I found that they would fall out when doing sports and anything that involves a lot of movements.

Also, I noticed that it don’t provide an in-line mic or playback controls. This is a con since other earbuds include this feature. I found this as a problem since I prefer to control my music via my earbuds without taking out my device.

The cord length was perfect for my use and the the 3.5mm plug fit many devices that you probably own. I found no problems with this. I’m very please with the audio quality, with included bass boost, and found that this to be very pleasing when tuning out people and other surrounding sounds.

I would recommend this is the average consumer especially for this price. Otherwise, you could find better for a little more money. [Review] Reddit Gets Harder To RESist

If you, like me, are a Reddit addict (a Redditic(TM), if you will) and have considered enrolling with the Redditics Anonymous in your locality on several occasions, you should probably stop reading here.

If you’re still here, you’re either beyond help, or just a rebel at heart. Either way, here’s something that could help improve your Reddit experience.

RES or Reddit Enhancement Suite is a browser add-on available for Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari that allows users to customize and enhance their Reddit experience. Like any other add-on, it is easy to install, AND for a change does not require the annoying browser restart after installation. It is automatically used by the browser whenever you browse Reddit.

Overall, the plugin is relatively easy to configure using the “gear” icon on the top right of the screen.

Irresistible features of RES :

This features allows you to create a Dashboard for yourself – mainly to choose the mails, users and subreddits you like to follow, all on one page.

  • You can choose a Mail widget which lets you choose between Unread messages, Messages, Comment replies, and Post replies.
  • You also have a User widget that allows you follow (read, spy on) comments and posts from a particular Redditor
  • And finally, there’s the Subreddit widget, that lets you see your preferred subreddit(s) on your Dashboard.

Personally, I feel it speeds up the time-wasting process by letting you see all your points of interest on a single page.

Account Switcher:

This feature proves useful for the Reddit veterans with several accounts who need to switch accounts often. It can be activated in the Settings Console under the Accounts tab.

Once configured, you can switch between your various accounts with a simple click, saving you the time of having to log in and log out of accounts if you choose the “keep me logged in” option. Having numerous accounts also allows the configuration of a Dashboard corresponding to each account.

This feature could also be useful on shared computers for different users to save their accounts (even though it might not be the most secure way of going about things).

View Images:

This feature gives you the option of being able to see images in-line WITH the posts (as seen below), instead of having to click on them individually. Especially practical with r/Pics and the likes.

NSFW Filter:

People who browse Reddit at work or in schools might find this feature highly useful since it automatically hides NSFW posts to prevent that accidental (and potentially dangerous) click.NSFWFilter

User Tagging:

This feature allows you to tag different users with any name you’d like. This might help you to better identify users you recognize. It also provides Gmail-esque color codes for these user tags.

A personal suggestion would also be to use it to identify users as Troll00, Troll01, Troll02 and so on, to save time on comments you needn’t take seriously 😉

Never-ending Reddit:

And FINALLY, it provides you with Never-ending Reddit! This avoids a page reload every time you change pages and lets you see several pages of posts on the same screen.

Verdict:

Thesis 2: Thou Suck, Big Time

I have been trying to change the look and design of my blog(s) for a long time. I tried a number of themes but I never got the satisfaction with it. See, I am no CSS champion or something. I simply don’t know it. So I wanted some theme that allows me to customize the layout, color and similar things so that I can make my site distinguishable from other sites using same or similar theme, of course without coding in HTML, CSS or any other language.

Looking for such a website, I came across the Thesis Theme for WordPress which claims to be the “easiest” way to deploy and tweak the WordPress designs. I checked the website and was taken away with its claims. So I decided to purchase it for a whooping $199 only to realize after few hours that I made a mistake.

It’s a nightmare for a beginner

Yes! The reason for which you bought Thesis was its claim to be able to do the customization in a most simplistic without the need of coding at all. Does it happen? Answer is mostly negative.

See, though I am not a CSS expert or something but I certainly am no noob to these things. If I find it complicated despite of being in Software profession, many others will find it complicated too. You will keep on fiddling with drag and drop and will never get the thing you want. I For e.g., you will surely not like the author image below the author description. will you? I found no option to keep it beside the author description.

Where the f**k is documentation and tutorials?

If you are new to something, the first thing you turn to is its manual. Behold Thesis. Its users guide has nothing to offer in terms of how to build a website with Thesis 2.0. All it tells you is how to upload box and packages. Don’t ask for video tutorials. It exists for Thesis 1.6 and is not valid for Thesis 2.0 at all. Now before you suggest me to Google for tutorials, my question to you: did I buy Thesis or Google service? If a product doesn’t have a proper user manual, then it should stop calling it “do it yourself”.

Where are the skins, updates, packages as promised?

Thesis 2.0 was launched in October’12. Almost 5 months and there is virtually nothing as has been promised. The professional package say that it will include two complementary skins very soon. Soon has a new definition here. It is everlasting. I was checking the web for information about updates and was amazed to know that Thesis 2.0 came after more than a year of its announcements. Moreover, you might end up paying more for any updates. I feel like I bought a beta version of a software where most of the things is in to-do list.

I paid $200, why do I need to pay more for the essential goodies?

Because you are trapped. You have to pay for skins, boxes (something like widgets with some wizardry) and what not. Moreover at the tipping point when you feel like you cannot design your website with this “do it yourself” framework, you’ll see there are plethora of designers that can customize it for you. But wait a sec! Did you not just pay $200 so that you don’t have to hire a web designer?

What’s the fuzz about SEO?

One of the main high points discussed everywhere is that Thesis provides you an “awesome” option of superb SEO. See, again, I am no SEO expert but I do use free-to-use SEO plugin from Yoast and trust me, I did not find the fames SEO option any different than it. In fact many other themes provides the same easy-to-configure SEO options. For e.g., the TopGadget theme from Magazine 3 provides the same options and this theme is also very much configurable.

In my (layman) opinion, it is just one of those marketing strategy where you keep on wondering why you paid such hefty amount for a stuff where others get if for far less amount of money.

Why Thesis 2.0 sucks?

There are plenty of reasons and I can write pages after pages over it. But I would like to highlight few points to sum up this article as why Thesis framework sucks:

  • It is over expensive
  • It is all about marketing and big claims
  • It is not at all suitable for non-technical people and beginner
  • It hardly provides updates
  • You have to pay for lots of things which you might have assumed to be included in the package
  • Many boxes, skins, packages are in “coming soon” mode
  • No proper user guide
  • No video tutorials for Thesis 2.0

While Thesis may be great for many, it is surely no piece of cake for a not-so-technical person. While DIY market itself as a any-one-can-build-it, it is certainly not what it claims to be.

Sharegate supports 8 versions of SharePoint, SharePoint 2003, SharePoint 2007, Microsoft Offfice SharePoint Server, SharePoint Foundation 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Office 365, BPOS and SharePoint 2013.

If you want to connect to Office 365 or SharePoint online, you have to select the manual authentication mode. You can directly migrate to SharePoint 2010 or 2013 from SharePoint 2003 or SharePoint 2007. People who want to maintain the version history when migrating has to check the “Preserve version history” when creating a new property template.

There is a map properties available for the destination lists/libraries and source which can help you to map your sources easily. It’s a great feature for consolidating lists and libraries. You can also copy permissions and version history and also create your own template so when you have different sites with the same idea, you can use your custom copy template everytime. I didn’t find any major negative side of this tool and you can try the trial version of Sharegate before purchasing the full version.

Verdict

Sharegate calls itself a no brainer migration tool for SharePoint and I must say, it’s a great tool for SharePoint structure and content migration.

[Review] Facebook Page Manager For Android. Is It Worth A Download?

If you are (or ever were) an admin of a Facebook page, you must be aware of the pain an admin goes through in managing the page through his/her mobile. The world is relying more and more on mobile devices. which means more than half of the Facebook users access it via mobile. Which also means many of the Facebook Page managers also access it via mobile.

As an admin to several Facebook pages, I always felt a need for a more controlled approach to the Facebook pages on mobile. When I first heard that Facebook is releasing its own Facebook Page Manager Android app solely for managing Facebook Pages, I was ecstatic. After some time fiddling with it, I came up with this review. Lets fond out what the Facebook Page Manager can do and how it fared on the expectation.

The Interface:

The interface and the interactivity of the Facebook Page Manager is similar to the new look of official Facebook Android app. Once you have logged in to the app, you can see all of your pages for which you are an admin by clicking on the menu on top left. This is nothing new as one can do the same in the simple Facebook app.

Once you choose your page, you can see all the new likes, messages and the user activities in the top notification area, very similar to how you use the Facebook app for your personal profile. You can update status and share photos from here.

On the top right corner, there is a filter that gives you access to choose between posts by page and posts by fans. In the simple Facebook page, this option was available via links.

Comment viewing section is same as what we have seen in the new Facebook app. When you click on comments, it opens a new ‘window’ on the top of existing one:

You can delete a post just by swiping your fingers across the screen. Once we have seen the interface and the look of the Facebook Page Manager, it is time to see the highs and lows of this app.

What’s Hot?

Page Insights:

The best thing about Facebook Page Manager is that it provides the insights about the posts and statuses akin to the web version. The “reach” started showing under a posts since the time Facebook started forcing page owners to pay to reach more fans (among the existing only, not new). You can see how many people your post reached in this new app.

Apart from showing the “reach”, it also shows the detailed insights. The “View Insights” gives the critical details about the post. Very helpful for targeted campaigns. If you promote your post, those insights will also be accessible.

Notifications:

Based on your Facebook page settings, it also notifies you of new user likes and comments on the page. May not be a good option for pages with tens of thousands fans with hundreds of active users.

Whats Not?

If you think that with Facebook Page Manager on your Android phone, you don’t need to log in to the web version, you are wrong. Facebook Page Manager is missing lots of crucial features important to a page admin.

No option to delete a comment and ban a user:

Every now and then we, page admins, came across unruly, rude and misbehaving fans. Surprisingly, while you can delete a Facebook comment from your page on mobile with the simple Facebook app, the Page Manager does not have this option (at present). No prizes for guessing that you cannot ban/un-ban a user.

No tagging in comment section:

When you use the web version, you can tag a user (who have commented on the post earlier) in the comment section. Unfortunately, there is no such service available in the Facebook Page Manager.

Obviously if you are looking for a way to share or download images from Facebook on mobile for your page, you will be disappointed again.

Verdict:

Facebook Page Manager is helpful for people who are more in to the statistics of their campaigns but as far as a normal Facebook Page admin is concerned, it does not offer much. Most of the features such as posts by fans, update status, photos and commenting is already available on normal Facebook apps. The new Facebook App Manager is missing some important features. No doubt that this app has been designed by an intern and it seems like the intern went back to defend his thesis 😛 I hope to see the missing crucial features in later versions. Till then it is up to you to use it or avoid it.
