The newer Android version after Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is not Android 5.0 but Android 4.4 and it is named as Android KitKat. Yes! The same popular chocolate brand from Nestle. Nestle and Google have come together to form a unique partnership where an OS is being named on a popular brand and thus entering a brand new domain of marketing.
Nestle announced this news on their official website and it gave the following reason for this partnership:
Nestlé’s branding partnership with Google is the company’s latest move in its ambition to leverage digital technology and online content to get closer to its consumers to better understand and cater to their preferences.
On the other hand Google is displaying the following message on its Android website:
Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!
To increase the sweetness of this partnership, Nestle is also giving away several Google Nexus tablets along with credits to spend in Google Play. This offer will be available in 19 countries including Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Dubai, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
So if you are luck to reside in these 19 countries, you’ll see new KitKat chocolates with Android robot on its wrapper. Sounds like a good news, no? Copying the line from Cadbury Indian ads, Kuch Meetha Ho Jaye?
