galaxy s4 teaser image

Samsung is all set to unveil the next Galaxy S phone this Thursday in New York City and we are here with all the latest rumors to give you an idea of what to expect this Wednesday. The Galaxy S4 is considered as one of the most anticipated gadgets of this year so tons of rumors are piling up before the launch event. The next Galaxy S phone is expected to come up with some great feature that will not only top its current Galaxy S phone but will also be ready to compete with the next iPhone and other Android phones.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Design

galaxy S4

We’ve seen plenty of leaked images and rumors so far about the design of Galaxy S4 and if these rumors are real, we can expect to see a slightly changed version of the Galaxy S3 apart from the larger screen. It will be made out of plastic and the sides of the device will be made from aluminium. We were expecting to see better material in its flagship devices but the company has done a good job so far with cheap plastic. If the leaked images are real, we can expect to see thinner bezel than we saw on the last Galaxy S device and attractive aluminium trim.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs

galaxy s4 rumors

The next Galaxy S phone is rumored to feature a big 4.99-inch screen like its Note cousins and a full HD display with 1920×1080 resolution. Such a big display would come with an amazing pixel density of around 441PPI which is more than the resolution of Apple’s Retina display technology and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Apple is also planning to offer a 5-inch screen in their next iPhone but we are not sure if this will be featured in the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6.

galaxy s4 unveiled

The Galaxy S4 will be packed with Quad-core 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 & Quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor (quad-coreprocessor in the U.S. version and eight-cores processor in the international version), Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset, a whopping 13-megapixel camera with 1080p video capturing feature, 2.1-megapixel front camera with 1080p video capturing feature, Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS and 2600 mAh battery. We are expecting to see a smarter camera and a more powerful processor in the next iPhone but we are not sure if it will be the same 8-megapixel camera with new technology or a camera with more megapixels.

Innovations to Look for

Samsung’s next big thing will feature an eye-tracking technology that will let you change pages by tracking your eyes. When your eyes will reach the bottom of a page, the smartphone will automatically go to the next page or show the next paragraph. It is also expected to feature wireless charging technology, a Passbook like app we saw in iOS for payment and touchless gestures for different actions.

That’s what we have learned about the next big thing from Samsung so far. We don’t know when it will go on sale but the launch event is on March 14 so we don’t have to wait for too long to find out.

Month Recap: Gadgets Launched In February

Before we start looking at the next month’s big tech events, let’s take a look at this month’s big and popular tech news. It was certainly a big month for us tech geeks as we saw some great gadgets like Galaxy Note 8, Asus FonePad, HTC One and PlayStation 4.

galaxy note 8

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Note 8 at the 2013 Mobile World Congress after lots of rumors and leaked pictures. It’s a tablet version of the company’s successful Note and Note II and is ready to compete with iPad Mini with its 8-inch display. The company didn’t reveal the tablet’s specs yet but it features 8-inch 1280×800 screen, 2GB RAM, 5MP rear camera and 1.3MP front camera. Another notable feature of this device is its S-Pen like other Note devices.

The company is yet to announce its availability and pricing details but you can expect to see an initial Q2 release in Asia and Europe only.

iPhone 5 leaked

leaked iPhone 5S image

A Chinese website has posted some leaked photos of the rumored iPhone 5S recently and they believe it’s a pre-production version of the next iPhone. Apple failed to protect it’s secret last time before the announcement of iPhone 5 so there is a fifty-fifty chance that these rumors are true. According to the rumors, we can expect to see the same taller screen, an improved camera with powerful LED flash, fingerprint sensor, full-HD display and color options like the latest iPod Touch.

Apple refused to comment on these rumors as usual so we have to wait for an official announcement to confirm these rumors.

Asus FonePad

Assus Fonepad ImageAsus announced FonePad, a Nexus 7 like tablet with 3G mobile data and voice-calling feature at the Mobile World Congress this month. The new device looks like a combo of Asus’ docking PadFone mobile and the popular Nexus 7.

The FonePad features 7-inch IPS screen with 1280×800 display, Android 4.1 OS, Intel Atom Z2420 processor, 1GB of RAM, optional 8GB or 16GB internal memory, 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.2 megapixel front camera, voice calling feature and full 3G telephony support. The company is planning to release the FonePad between April and June in the U.K. and in Asia at the end of the June for $249.

HTC One

HTC One

HTC recently unveiled the HTC One at an event earlier this month and called the new flagship smartphone a “game-changer” because of its “innovative features”. The company usually releases several phones using the same name but they decided to drop X or S from this device. The Taipei City-based company also decided to make this device their sole flagship smartphone for this year.

The HTC One features a 4.7-inch full 1080p HD Display with 468ppi, 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and a 2,300mAh battery. The flagship device will be available on Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T in the US next month and is now available for pre-order.

Chromebook Pixel

chromebook pixel price

Google unveiled its premium notebook, at a San Francisco press event this month. The Chromebook features a 12.85’’ inch screen with 2560×1700 resolution and it’s also a touchscreen which is introduced in a Chromebook for the first time.

The Chromebook also features a 1.8GHz Dual –core Intel i5 processor, integrated HD 4000 graphics, 4GB of RAM and Chrome OS. But it’s not these features that attracted tech geeks, it’s the price, $1299 for the 32GB of flash storage and Wi-Fi version and $1449 for Wi-Fi, LTE broadband and 64GB of storage. It’s too much for a Chrome OS based device which is only good for using web-based apps and internet browsing.

ZTE Grand Memo

zte grand memo specs

ZTE has announced the Grand Memo, a phablet with 5.7-inch screen at its MWC 2013 event this month. The flagship device features a big 5.7-inch screen with 720p resolution, 13-megapixel camera, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, customized Android 4.1.2 and 3200mAh battery.

Looks like ZTE is trying to push the boundaries of phablet and is trying to grab some attention in the phablet arena. The smartphone will be launched in China soon and then in Europe.

Leaked Photos Of iPhone 5S Appear Online

There were rumors about Apple planning to release an iPhone 5S later this year and now a Chinese website has posted some leaked photos of the rumored iPhone to back that up. The website posted a series of pictures showing the dimensions and design of the upcoming Apple device in various stages of production and are allegedly taken at Foxconn’s facility in China.

iPhone 5S leaked images

The leaked pictures show a pre-production version of the rumored iPhone 5S which gives us a pretty good idea of how the device is going to look like. Apple followed the iPhone 5’s design for the upcoming device with the same taller screen. According to the post, iPhone 5S will offer a minor update from the previous phone while the iPhone 6 will feature a trendy 5-inch screen.

leaked iPhone 5S image

Earlier rumors about iPhone 5S said that the upcoming device will feature a better processor, an improved camera with powerful LED flash, fingerprint sensor and color options like the latest iPod Touch. Sharp displayed its IGZO display at the CES 2013 recently in a 32-inch 4K monitor and we are expecting to see this technology in the upcoming iPhone. HTC and Sony have already unveiled their flagship smartphones with full-HD displays and Apple is also planning to feature full-HD screen in the next iPhone.

leaked iPhone 5S images

Apple recently announced a 128GB iPad so we are also expecting to see a storage bump in the iPhone 5S. According to another Chinese website, the successor to the popular iPhone 5 will be cheaper but stockier and will be available in attractive six colors. Foxconn is usually known for its top security within its manufacturing area and there is no way to confirm if the images are real or not. However, the rumor mill managed to predict almost everything perfectly last time before the release of iPhone 5 so there’s a fifty-fifty chance of these rumors coming true.

Apple is refusing to comment on these rumors as usual and according to a report by Business Insider, the next iPhone will go into production next month and will be unveiled in June. We know that the last two iPhones were released at the end of the year but it’s also true that both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4 were released in mid-year so we can expect to see the next iPhone in June.

Sony Announces Xperia Tablet Z: A 10.1 Inch Waterproof Ultra Thin Tablet

Sony announced the Xperia Z smartphone at the CES recently and now its cousin, the Xperia Tablet Z has been officially announced today. The company is not very influential in the tablet market but looks like they are ready to compete with iPad with its new 10.1-inch waterproof tablet. Sony and NTT Docomo (Japanese carrier) was planning to announce the tablet on January 22 but Docomo accidentally leaked the tablet details on its website and Blog of Mobile, a popular Japanese gadget site reported the leak instantly.

tablet z

Thinner than the iPad Mini

Just like its smartphone cousin, the Xperia Tablet Z is waterproof and can stay alive under 3 feet of liquid. The tablet comes with a stunning 6.9mm thickness which is thinner than the latest iPad Mini (7.2mm thick). Sony’s Xperia S tablet was also a good looking tablet but its price tag failed to compete with the cheaper alternatives.

Specs

The specs of the tablet are also as amazing as the outside of the device. The tablet features a 1080p screen, a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon chip, 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, NFC and LTE support. The big 1080p screen comes with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine for adding attractive vibrancy and color depth to screen. Like its smartphone cousin, the tablet features an 8.1-megapixel camera with Exmor R technology.

The tablet will feature Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and with two color options, black and white. It’s really amazing how this tablet is waterproof, features 8.1-megapixel camera with the Exmor R technology, quad-core chip and 2GB of RAM and is still only 6.9mm thick. It’s the thinnest tablet available so far and is both dust and water-proof. This super thick tablet also features S-Force virtual surround sound system. The tablet comes with 6,000mAh battery and weighs only 495 grams which makes this tablet the lightest 10-inch tablet at the moment.

Summary of Features:

  • 1.5GHz quad-core processor
  • 1080p HD 10.1-inch display
  • OS: Android 4.1
  • 8.1MP main camera
  • 2GB RAM
  • Water and dust resistant
  • 32GB internal storage with microSD expansion option
  • Weighs 495 grams and 6.9mm thin
  • LTE and NFC Support
  • S-Force Front Surround 3D technology

We still don’t know when this tablet will be available worldwide or about its price tag but we are expecting to see this lightest and thinnest 10-inch tablet in Japanese market next week. We’ll let you know once we get to know more about its availability and pricing details.

Shrink To Fit Market- iPhone Mini Could Be The Next Big Thing After iPad Mini

Steve Jobs, as the world is aware of, always worked towards building quality products that added value for money and gave rich user experience over the ones that came with low price tag and compromised with features including the size. But now, Apple is in for too much of experimenting and trying to get closer to the competition in-terms of redesigning their existing products to fit all pockets!

iPhone mini

After its launch of iPad mini in the month of October last year, rumors has it that Apple is planning to come up with iPhone mini in 2014. As the report is seen on   it is said that the Apple needs to find newer ways to make profit in 2014 which is otherwise doing great business in 2013 through its iPhone 5. But as foreseen by Mawston, Samsung will capture 33 percent of the 2013 smartphone market and Apple will have its share of 21 percent. Apart from Mawston, strategy analytics, Jeffries analyst Peter Misek also believes the possibility of such a smartphone and said it would cost anywhere between $200 and $250 according to the source.

Apple is now on the second position following the lead Samsung in the smart phone business. As per the analysis by Mawston, the high-end smartphone market is nearing saturation and to survive the competition, to gain the first place and also to fill the gap and tap the cheap smartphone market, iPhone is rumored to release this new “iPhone mini” in 2014.

The question is- “would there be a market for this cheaper and smaller iPhone?” As per the Forbes, this “Honey I shrunk the iPhone” version could have a huge market in countries like China and India apart from the craze that could develop in USA.

People already using the current versions of high-end iPhones might not want to switch to the miniature of the same but yes, other potential customers who are using cheaper smart phones would definitely switch to a better alternative like iPhone mini.

If at all this rumor becomes reality, would you opt for an iPhone mini?

Google unveils another Nexus phone, larger tablet and 3G Nexus 7

Google Nexus Tablet Phone

Apple has recently released the iPhone 5, a new 7-inch iPad called “iPad mini” and iPad 4 and now Google is ready to compete with Apple with a new Nexus smartphone made by LG called the Nexus 4, an iPad-sized tablet called the Nexus 10 made by Samsung and 32GB Nexus 7 with 3G option. The search engine giant rolled out these three new devices last week with the latest version of Android operating system, Jelly Bean 4.2. The company unveiled them in an official blog post as the special event was canceled as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Let’s see if these devices are really worth adding to your holiday shopping list or not.

Google Nexus 4

The Google Nexus 4 made by LG is here to replace the aging Samsung Galaxy Nexus so let’s see if the latest Nexus smartphone is offering a massive upgrade or not.

Google Nexus 4The LG Nexus 4 is actually heavier than the old Nexus smartphone at 139g while the iPhone 5 is only 112g. The new Nexus smartphone offers 9.1mm thickness while the old one was 8.94mm and the iPhone 5 is only 7.6mm. However, the iPhone 5 features only a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS screen with 326ppi and 640×1136 pixels while the Nexus 4 features a larger 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus screen with 318ppi and 768×1280 pixels. If you compare the LG Nexus 4 with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it’s not really a massive upgrade. But if you compare it with the iPhone 5, LG Nexus 4 is clearly the winner here.

Now it’s time to see what these devices are offering under the hood. The Nexus 4 offers a major hardware upgrade with an outstanding 1.5GHz Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB RAM. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is still capable of handling the apps released nowadays but Nexus 4’s hardware is one of the best by today’s standards. I am not comparing the LG Nexus 4 with the iPhone 5 as the old Nexus phone is still good enough to compete with the latest iPhone.

Both the Nexus devices offer a pure Android experience. However, the LG Nexus 4 will be the first smartphone to offer Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with new and upgraded features. Other notable features are: 8MB rear-camera, 1.3MP front camera, SlimPort-HDMI, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi and a 2100mAh to power up the device. Where the latest smartphone really shines is its affordable price tag. The Google Nexus 4 will be

Nexus 10 Tablet

available in the Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, UK and US on November 13 for $299 (8GB) and $349(16GB) unlocked version.

The Nexus 10

After the huge success of Nexus 7, Google is ready to enter in the 10-inch tablet market with the Nexus 10. Apple is also ready with the new iPad 4 so let’s see if the Nexus 10 is ready to compete with the pricey iPad 4.

The Nexus 10 is Google’s first 10-inch tablet and is the second tablet in the line of Nexus tablets. As Samsung is the manufacturer behind the Nexus 10, this tablet features a different design to the previous Nexus 7 made by Asus. The iPad 4 and Nexus 10 are not available in the market yet so I am just going to compare the specs of both devices here. The Nexus 10 comes with a complete 10-inch WQXGA screen with 2560×1600 resolution and 300ppi while the iPad 4 features a 9.7-inch IPS LED screen with 2048×1536 resolution and only 264ppi. Both iPad 4 and Nexus 10 have good processor but the Nexus 10 comes with 1.7GHz processor while the processor used in the iPad is only 1.4GHz. Moreover, the Nexus 10 features 2GB RAM instead of 1GB RAM, two NFC chips, a front facing sensor with more MP and still weightsless than the iPad 4.

Nexus 7

If you are not worried about your budget, the iPad 4 is available with three different storage options,16GB, 32GB and 64GB with optional 3G. On the other side, Google is only offering Wi-Fi versions at the moment with 16GB and 32GB storage options. The Nexus 10 is available for $399(16GB) and $499(32GB) and the iPad 4 prices start at $499 so the Nexus 10 is clearly the winner here.

3G Nexus 7

After lot of rumors and speculation, the Nexus 7 3G is finally here with bigger storage. And that’s not all; the 16GB ‘Wi-Fi only’ version is now available for only $199 and the 3G 32GB Nexus 7 will be available for $299. People who are not interested to buy the 3G version can look for the Nexus 7 32GB Wi-Fi only version in a range of retailers.
