No. Bruce Willis Is Not Suing Apple [Sigh!]

Bruce Willis Sues Apple RumorAfter Apple won $1B lawsuit against its growing rival Samsung, many technology lovers (except Apple fanboys) deemed it as Apple’s unnecessary arrogance. When the news came in market that Bruce Willis is willing to sue Apple over the ownership of the downloaded content from Apple store, it only put a smirk on many faces.

Why would Bruce Willis want to sue Apple?

The Die Hard star Bruce Willis has a vast digital music collection which he was hoping to leave to his daughters after his death. But such an act is illegal under the terms and conditions (which are always pages long which nobody bothers to read) of iTunes. The condition says, here comes the shocker, if you buy music or other content from Apple’s iTune store, you are not actually buying it but just “borrowing” it from iTunes. Which means you cannot share it with someone else.

But Apple is not the lone king in this evil empire. Amazon, along with several others, too has similar policies for the books downloaded for Kindle along.

Alas! It was a rumor:

The smirk on the faces did not last long as the news came out that all this was just a rumor. Emma Heming-Willis, current wife of Bruce Willis, denied these rumors in a recent .

Though the rumor may come to an end but it surely has started a new discussion on the ownership rights on the legally purchased digital content.  What are your views on it?

Android’s Jelly Bean over Apple’s iOS, here is why?

Android 4.1, Jelly bean is the newest, fastest and smoothest version of Android so far. Google search experience is the best part of this newer version and the most important reason along with other amazing features for why you should go for Jelly Bean over iOS!

The fantastic features of Jelly Bean

  1. Google search, as rightly claimed by ‘Google’ is fast and accurate. You can expect to get your answers ready even before your question is finished. It has the feature of searching your queries with voice feed. You can just ask a question or a query to the google search by talking and literally you will be amazed to see the response time with accurate answers. Your answers are given back with voice if it knows the answer and interestingly it gives you an opportunity to find out more by providing precisely ranked search results. The voice is more natural and has human feeling. Not only this but also cards keep hitting your screen all through the day as and when you need them as a token of relevant information. For example- Before you start your day you will get the information about weather updates and traffic status.
  2. Say no to sync feature! Yes, you can share photos, videos, apps and more without having to sync two Android devices but simply by pairing Android devices such as phones or tablets to bluetooth devices like headphone or speakers which support Simple Secure Pairing standard. You are all set to share by tapping together.
  3. One essential feature of Jelly Bean is the accessibility and ease of using the phone by blinds. Gestures mode with the combination of voice output and the facility to connect external Braille input and output devices via USB and Bluetooth makes it possible to see the digital world with clarity.
  4. Buttery graphics and silky transitions as described in Android’s official blog are the features that are all set to give you a new and improved experience.
  5. Your notifications are not just informative but also interactive. The notifications are expandable and hence gives you control over viewing details and responding instantly as and when required.
  6. It is been said that interacting with apps and customizing home page was never this easier before. As the widgets are positioned on-screen automatically everything else makes room for the widget to be placed. Also, the widgets resize on their own.
  7. You can now type with your voice and get more relevant options as you type with the smart keypad in Jelly Bean. Sharing photos and bragging are your rights and you can do it in full speed. While Ice Cream Sandwich made it fast to snap, Jelly Bean also made viewing superfast.

What more? Screen response time has improved noticeably in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google voice search is faster than Apple’s SIRI any time, with rich and smart push notifications and Android Beam things ought be clear by now. It’s time to have some beans for the health and welfare of the pockets while enjoying the goodness and nourishing features at the same time.

Hello World is No More: RIP Dennis Ritchie

Seems like October 2011 is a sad month for tech world. We have lost 3 visionaries who have changed the world by their innovation. First it was Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Inc then Robert Galvin, Motorola’s cellphone pioneer and now Dennis Ritchie, author of C programming language and co-author of Unix Operating System has died.

If you have ever learned a programming language your first line printed would have been “Hello World” which was Dennis Ritchie’s trademark (if I can say that) when he wrote C language. I found no better to way to pay tribute to Dennis Ritchie than this:

#include
#include
main( )
{
printf(“Hello World No More \n RIP Dennis Ritchie”);
}

I just pray that this month doesn’t bring any other bad news. :(

Intel AppUp(SM) Center: An App Store for Windows from Intel

App-Store:

Seems like App stores are the next big market. These app-stores are a good place for a user to look for exciting new application, games and accessories for his/her device. An app-store actually constitute significantly to the success of device/os, with Apple being the best example. Users can select from a wide range of variety of application which also includes free and demo versions apart from the paid ones. App-stores provides new and budding start-ups and individuals opportunity to make money by selling their applications.

First it was Apple who came up with its app store followed by Android. Nokia entered late into the market with Ovi Store. Ubuntu also has its own app-store: Ubuntu Software Center.

Intel AppUP:

Intel has launched a Windows based app-store named: Intel AppUp(SM) Center. You need to install the application on your PC and need an internet connection to use the app-store. Here you can find lots of applications for Windows based Operating System. There are several categories of application like Games, Educational, Finance, Health, Business etc. The interface looks quite elegant:

Features:

  • Applications purchased through your account can be used on up to five (5) PC devices. Simply install the Intel AppUp(SM) center client on your favorite device, sign in, and go to My Apps and download apps onto your PC device.
  • Applications are screened and filtered, showing you only those apps that will work on your device or the operating system installed on that device.
  • All paid applications are free to try for 24 hours. If you do not like an app, you can cancel the purchase within the first 24 hours. All application purchases can be cancelled only one (1) time.
  • All apps you purchase or download are easily accessible from the My Apps section.
  • If you provided your credit card information during the registration process, you can purchase new apps with as little as one click.
  • To edit your user preferences–including languages–click on your name located near the top of the client home page.

User Experience:

As I said before the interface is very elegant with no visible borders. This is why it does not blend into Windows environment. The interface and the looks resembles Mac applications. The biggest flaw (as of now) is that you have to use the minimize button to minimize the app window, it does not minimize the window itself when you click again when you click on it in the task-bar.

How to use it:

  • Go here to Download the Intel AppUp application: http://www.appup.com/applications/index
  • Install it
  • Register on the website
  • Use it

Free Britannica Kids Back To School Bundle Offer:

If you register now for the Intel AppUp, you can download Britannica Kids Encyclopedia Dinosaur and Solar System worth $4.99 free.

How to know which network adapter I’m using?

To know the manufacturer of the network adapter of your computer in Linux, type this command in terminal:

sudo lshw -C network

The output of the command may look something like this:

       *-network
       description: Wireless interface
       product: BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller
       vendor: Broadcom Corporation
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0
       logical name: wlan0
       version: 01
       serial: 70:f1:a1:c2:f2:e9
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
       configuration: broadcast=yes driver=brcm80211 driverversion=2.6.38-8-generic firmware=N/A ip=172.17.4.253 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bgn
       resources: irq:17 memory:f0500000-f0503fff
  *-network
       description: Ethernet interface
       product: AR8152 v1.1 Fast Ethernet
       vendor: Atheros Communications
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0
       logical name: eth0
       version: c1
       serial: b8:ac:6f:67:11:46
       capacity: 100Mbit/s
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vpd bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation
       configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=atl1c driverversion=1.0.1.0-NAPI firmware=N/A latency=0 link=no multicast=yes port=twisted pair
       resources: irq:43 memory:f0400000-f043ffff ioport:2000(size=128)

Check the output closely. It gives information about both Wired and Wireless Network Adapter. No need to specify that one with Wireless Interface describes wireless adapter and one with Ethernet Interface describes Wired Network Adapter. As you can see in the output, I have Broadcom’s wireless adapter and Atheros Ethernet (wired) adapter.
