WordPress is my favorite content management system. It has better features and it is easier to use compare to other blogging platform such as Blogger (or Blogspot). Best thing that I like about WordPress is its editor. Blogger’s editor is extremely poor when it comes to feature and ease of use. This is why the posts with better placed pictures in WordPress blogs look better than those of Blogger’s. I had moved my blog from WordPress to Blogger for some time. The main attraction was ‘free hosting’ and ‘adsense’ earnings. But I did not feel comfortable with it and decided to opt for a self hosted WordPress blog. My biggest fear was losing the email subscribers but somehow managed to move my WordPress.com email subscriber to WordPress.org
No Visual Editor in WordPress, only HTML?
When Medha BN joined Computer And You as a regular contributor, she faced a unique problem. WordPress editor was showing only HTML option for her. There was no ‘Visual’ option. If you do not know already, in Visual editor you get several option which is similar to many document editors like MS Word or LibreOffice Writer. Writing a post in HTML editor is not at all user friendly. A regular WordPress editor has both Visual Editor and HTML editor like this:
Since Medha was new to WordPress, she did not even know that WordPress editor does not work like that. Below is the screenshot of Medha’s WordPress editor:
How to show Visual editor in WordPress?
After some discussion, we found why only HTML option was available in WordPress editor. Visual editor was disabled in the user profile settings. To solve the issue, follow the steps below:
- Log in to your dashboard.
- Go to the Profile in left sidebar.
- See if ‘Disable the visual editor when writing’ has been checked, uncheck it
You should see the Visual editor now when you write your next post. Enjoy
