The development of prosthetics (a robotic technique which duplicated the natural movement of human legs) is not less than a blessing for the human beings. Due to the recent advancements in robotic technology and creation of prosthetics, the scientists are now focusing on the dramatic improvements of lower limbs mobility to maintain human health.
This pioneer research is the gift of Mr. Michael Goldfarb, the H. Fort Flowers Professor of Mechanical Engineering and his fellows at VanderbiltUniversity’s Center for Intelligent Mechatronics. They have developed the world’s leading and advanced prosthetic/artificial legs which would work as normal human legs, but putting lesser stress and reducing the risks of falling on their bodies. These amazingly created robotic legs would help the humans improve the mobility of limb amputees and allow them negotiate uneven floors quite easily.
Talking about the size and weight of these amazing robotic legs, I must appreciate the efforts of the scientists that both size and weight are reliable enough (not too heavy in weight and bigger in size). The creators have developed them in a way that they can easily fit the biological legs’ size and play the role of natural legs without letting the users feel irritated.
Mr. Goldfarb and his team seem to be really excited about this new creation. They are of the view that since a long, they were struggling to develop some highly effective lower-limb prosthetics and finally they seem to get success in the mission. They have planned to unveil the new robotic prosthetic soon. It would be powered with artificially created knee and ankle joints, lithium-ion batteries with a capacity to store extra energy, highly profile brushless electric motors with rare-earth magnets, miniaturized sensors built into semiconductor chips (accelerometers and gyroscopes) and low-power computer chips.
Wow, it seems that the new robotic legs would be of great help to the patients who were unable to move from one place or another due to their weak or broken legs. But how much effective this creation would be yet has to be concluded once it is outed.
I must say that just like embedded systems, we can expect the prosthetics to be an effective creation.
