How to get Google Drive invite

Earlier this month we had rumors coming-up for the launch of new cloud storage from Internet giant Google. The iconic, much talked about cloud storage Google Drive is finally here. Integrated highly with Google docs and Gmail, it also has a dedicated app for desktop and mobile phone. Currently, it is in beta phase and offering 5 GB for free to all users. Before Google closes the free beta invite and reduces the 5 GB offer, .

Google Drive, the DropBox killer, set to launch in April’12?

Market is abuzz with rumors again. Rumor that has been circulating like a sinusoidal wave since 2006. The rumor about Google Drive, an online (now cloud) storage service from Internet’s big daddy Google. And it seems, like Google Plus, GDrive will also see herds of people trying to get an invite to Google Drive.

According to Om Malik of GigaOm, Google Drive could arrive as soon as April’12.Om sighted on behalf of his sources the following:

According to the details from my sources, Google is going to offer 1 Gb of storage space for free, but will charge for more storage. The market leader Dropbox currently offers 2 Gb for free. Google’s product will come with a local client and the web interface will look much like the Google Docs interface. Interestingly, it will launch for Google Apps customers and will be domain specific as well. Google has also built an API for third party apps with this service so folks can store content from other apps in the Google drive. My sources are impressed, so far with what they have seen.

So, does it mean Dropbox successful run comes to an end? Who can say? Facebook is very much alive and kicking asses despite of Google Plus, Buzz, Wave and Orkut (All Google products). But it for sure mean competition for Dropbox and Box. We certainly don’t consider Microsoft’s SkyDrive a contender here. What do you think, will it be a game changer?

Microsoft Social Network SOCL goes in beta, book a place for yourself

Microsoft Social Network SOCLFew months back we saw that Microsoft accidentally published its own version of Social Networking site Socl.com. They took down the site in few days but it seems they are back with their project renamed from Tulalip to socl (pronounced as social).

Socl is in fact not a new social networking site that wants to compete with Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus. Instead it is more like where users can collect interesting stuffs from web at one place and share it with their friends. [Read more…]

Review: MyCube: A new Social Networking Platform that lets you make Money

For those early adopters, here is a new social networking platform to try: MyCube. Started by a Singapore based and led by a strong team consisting of serial entrepreneurs and seasoned operational managers with experience from Netscape, RealNetworks, Yahoo, eBay, Let’s Buy It and Icon Medialab, MyCube claims to be word’s first Social Exchange site. What it means is that it lets user own the digital content and share it (either with friends of common or with public with common interest).

It is very focused on user’s privacy and doesn’t share the information in public without user’s consent. User connects with people who are most relevant to him. It has Interests feature (similar to Sparks in Google Plus, actually Google copied the idea from MyCube) where user can select the area of interests and feeds from sponsored agency (like a news magazine) or from other users (if they share it publicly) can be viewed on its home page thus bringing the most relevant information. Here is how my profile looks like:

The idea of social exchange is focused on giving user the control of his/her digital life i.e. it lets user own the data he shares. Unknown to most, the majority of social networks own the content you upload to them, and thus own the right to monetize it. According to a study in a year 360 Billion User Generated Content (Pictures, Videos, Links etc) are uploaded on Facebook in a year and Facebook makes $1.86 Billion out of it. So, Facebook makes money out of users’ content.

In MyCube, user owns the information it updates and shares. MyCube has its own virtual currency called Cubes (1 cube = 0.0.1 Singapore Dollars) which can be used in trading the information. It is ideal for people who have expertise in some field. They can share their work with others (MyCube lets you allow to whom you want to share the information with and in which category).

In a nut shell, MyCube has the following features:

  • Focuses on giving user the control and privacy
  • Lets users interact with people with common interest
  • Provide the ability to monetize the digital life (The best thing)

How to get Google Music Beta Invite from outside US

I was craving to try for Google Music Beta since it’s launch but as it is only available for people of USA (why only USA?), all the time it irritated me with We’re sorry. Music Beta is currently only available in the United States. But then as you know “there is a will there is a way”, I managed to get an invite. All I did was to use the a US Proxy to request an invitation. I got my Google Music Beta invite in 3 days. Apparently once you get the invite, Google doesn’t bother from where your accessing it i.e. all you need to do is to use a US proxy and then once you get the invitation, it is yours to use it. To simplify the process in steps:

  • Use a Google proxy site. I used http://www.ultrafastproxy.com/
  • In this site, scroll down a bit to find a field with a Browse tag on it, enter music.google.com
  • It will open Google Music page under the proxy
  • If you have security features enable in the Google account, you might have to answer the security question to verify that this a legitimate login
  • Now here you request for an invitation for an invite
  • Wait for 3-4 day to process the invite request
  • Once you get it you can access it from anywhere across the globe

You can also download the Google Music Manager, which is available for Windows, Mac and recently for Linux, to upload your own music to its cloud storage. You can upload upto 20,000 songs. But make sure that the music which your are uploading is legal. Uploading illegally downloaded music files will be deleted from the storage. One more thing once you get the invite, you can also send two invites to your friend.

How to invite other people/friends on Google+ (Google Plus)

So you got the much awaited invitation of + (If not, click here) and you really enjoy exploring it. While you are enjoying it, your friends are up your “some part of body” :) to get the invite from you and you virtually have no clues how to do that. Here is what I suggest. Get all the E-Mail address (you want to invite on Google+) in your Gmail contacts. You can do the same with Facebook as well. Get all your Facebook contacts in CSV format. No clues what I am saying? Take a look here: Download contacts from Facebook.

Now when you have all the E-Mails in your Gmail contacts list you are ready to take off.

  • Login in to Google plus.
  • Go to circles
  • Click on Find and Invite
  • Click on More Actions drop down and choose Select All
  • Now when all are selected, drag and drop them into new circle

Now when all your contacts are in a circle (you might want to name this circle say My Group) you are ready to please you friends with the Google invite. All you have to do now is:

  • Go on your home page in Google+
  • In the stream box, which is written as Share what’s new (Similar to Facebook status), set your status
  • When you write something in there it gives an option of sharing it with the circles you have (in our case My Group)
  • It also says that EMail people not using Google+, tick yes there
  • Now when you click share, the people who are not on Google+ will be notified about it by E-Mail and from that email they can join Google+

The recent buzz in the industry is Google+, the candidate to compete with ‘The ‘ (Is Google trying to avenge the murder of by Facebook :P). Social Networking Sites have evolved to a great extent and are a good source of information which can help in personalising the web experience (Google always pressed for the web experience to be person oriented). With the recent spat between Facebook and Google (remember the malign campaign against Goggle by Facebook PR company?) it was quite evident that Google will have its own way and the Google+ indeed seems to be an apt answer to Facebook. Get a Google+ invite by subscribing to the blog:

So many people have requested for a Google+ invite but it is not possible for me to copy 300 mail address one by one and then invite them. An easier way is subscribe to this blog (This is not to promote my blog, once you get your invite you are free to unsubscribe from it). And then I can download the subscriber details in CSV format and add them to Google contacts and will invite them in bulk. I have just sent Google+ invite to 27 active subscriber of the blog. So if you want one, subscribe to the blog rather than adding a request in the comment box. Thank you.

Note:

I invite all the subscriber around 3 times a day. If you do not get the invite or not able to use the invite, its not because of me but Google. In any case, all the subscriber are invited in each round so there is no chance for anyone to be left behind. Like a good doctor I do my duty, the rest is in God’s (Google in the case) hand.

Update:

Google has blocked my Google+ profile for violating the terms and condition. I sent so many invitations that it irritated them. So much for my philanthropy work. It means I am no more allowed to send any invitation. I have created another profile to invite people but having trouble getting all my contacts on Google+.

People who earlier got Google+ invitation but were not allowed to join should check that old mail again and try again.
