How To Get Rid Of Facebook Graph Search

Facebook Graph Search LogoEver since Facebook launched Graph Search, many of us were curious to get our hands on it. This is why I wrote a small tutorial on how to get Facebook graph search. But it seems that Facebook Graph Search is not that great and to an extent useless. Moreover, when you use the graph search, it removes all the home icon, notification, friend request, messages etc on the right side of the screen. Most of us are used to of refreshing the news feed by clicking on the home button. But with the new design, you might end up clicking on the search area. Quite a frustration.

I present you a neat little trick to disable Facebook Graph Search for now. This trick will work till the date Facebook forces users to use graph search similar to what it did with timeline.

How to remove Facebook Graph Search:

Step 1:

Go to your account settings:

Step 2:

If you are using Facebook graph search now, it means that your Facebook language is English US. To get rid of graph search, change the language to English UK.

How To Remove A Book Or App From Amazon Cloud

Amazon Kindle Fire HDI bought Kindle Fire HD few months back. I had some problem managing Kindle with Ubuntu, apart from that my experience with it is pretty much good. While looking for some free ebooks in English, I downloaded one mystery novel which had very steamy poster. While checking my Kindle, my friend took it for erotica. I must accept it, it was kind of embarrassing. So decided to delete it from the device.

If you are a Kindle user, you know that there are two options to view the books are apps in it. The books installed on device and the books saved in the cloud. Problem arises here that you can delete an app or book from the device but it will still be shown in the cloud view. And if you want to delete it from cloud, you have to use the web interface. Lets see how to do it.

How to delete books and apps from Amazon cloud:

Follow the steps below to remove a book from Amazon cloud:

Step 1:

Go to and login to your account.

Step 2:

Click on Your Account and then choose Manage your Kindle.

It will bring you to the Kindle Library where you can see all the books and apps that you ever downloaded or purchased. You can choose to delete the item from Action button on the right of each item. Once deleted, it won’t show up in the cloud view of your Kindle.

Earlier what seemed like rumour has become reality now. US and UK authorities will ban all the computers (mostly running Windows and Mac OS) which are affected by this nasty malware named DNSChanger. If you are wondering with following questions: What is DNS Changer? How do I detect DNS Changer in my computer? Will my computer be blocked because of DNS Changer? What is DNSChanger and how does it work?

First lets see what is DNS (Domain Name System). When you type a web address in your browser say www.itsfoss.com, there is a mechanism behind that looks up for the equivalent IP Address. Your DNS server is responsible for finding the correct IP address associated with a web address. The DNSChanger malware changes your DNS server with rogue DNS servers which directs you to some other site instead of the destined one.

Take the telephone analogy: DNS Server is like telephone directory that lets you find the phone number associated with a name. The DNSChanger malware clandestinely replaces your telephone directory with a similar looking directory that makes you dial wrong numbers.

A group of Estonian nationals created this malware DNSChanger, as early as 2007, which redirects internet traffic to sites with paid advertisement and earned a huge amount of money on it. FBI busted the ring and advised users to check for this malware. While a lot of computers were disinfected off the DNSChanger malware, around a quarter million computers are still affected with it. This has prompted the authorities to block the intenet access of the affected computer users to prevent the spread of this DNSChanger malware.

How to detect if my computer is affected with DNSChanger?

There are several ways in which you can easily identify whether your computer is affected by DNSChanger malware. Use the DNS Changer Check tool by DNS Changer Working Group to find out whether or not you are safe with DNSChnager. If it is green, safe! If it is red, screwed! Following are some authenticated sites which can also be used to find out the presence of DNSChanger malware:

If, unfortunately, you computer is affected by DNSChanger, best thing to do is to re-install your operating systems. How to remove a directory including all the subdirectories and files in Unix [Quick Tip]

Problem:

Imagine a scenario where you want to delete a directory (lets say dir_name) which contains lots of subdirectories (folders) and files. You may encounter the following errors if you try rm or rmdir:

rm: cannot remove `dir_name’: Is a directory

rmdir: failed to remove `dir_name’: Directory not empty

cannot remove directory `dir_name’. Directory not empty

Solution:

To avoid this problem use the following command:

rm -rf dir_name

It will delete all the content of dir_name including the subdirectories.

Myth: It is necessary to “safely remove drive”

Most of the people have the habit of using “Safe Remove Drive” thinking that it is useful for long life of the USB drive. Which is (partially) incorrect. It helps you in case when the USB drive in use i.e. if there is a file transfer going on, which means if you are moving files between USB drive and computer, it warns you that the drive is in use.

But if there is no file transfer happening, you can pluck out the USB drive straight away.

To add/remove or edit Environment variable in windows 7 follow these steps:

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Click on System and Security
  • Choose System
  • Choose Advanced System Setting in the left side bar

  • In this System Properties window select Advanced tab and click on Environment Variables

  • In  Environment Variable window you can see User defined and System defined environment variables. You can Add/Remove or Edit the User variables. To Add click on New, to remove select the variable and click Delete and to edit an existing variable select the variable and click Edit.
