The new and stylish VLC 2.0 has been released recently and now it supports the integration with the sound menu meaning you can now control the VLC player from the Ubuntu sound menu like you do with Rythembox or Banshee.
By default it is not enabled in Vlc but can be easily enabled by following the steps given below:
Open Vlc media player. Now go to Tools->Preference:
Here in the lower left corner under Show Settings select All. And then in the left sidebar, select Interface-> Control Interface. Now here check the option of D-Bus control interface. Save it.
Now restart Vlc media player and enjoy it from the sound menu. Cheers
